First post'D
Hello all viewing my BLOG... I am Tim. Also known as Crutchie, Crutch and other such profanities (my last name is Crutchett, so it isn't for other reasons that popped into your sick head...SICKO). I am the redhead who usually wears a GREEN JUMPER. Say hi to me, I am awesome.
Anyway, I am new to Maya so I downloaded Maya PLE (Pro Learning Edition). Watermarks shit me. I am waiting for my copy of Maya in the mail, then i'll be happy.
Anyway, as hages said, EXPERIMENT. That's what I have been doing so here are some images. Woo.
The idea behind what I did: I tried to create a really basic see-saw kind of thing to experiment with gravity, mass and a bit of lighting.

Click the image so see a larger version.
Ok, so I made a long plane for the see saw platform and used a "hinge constraint" so it's center of balance was dead in the middle of the plank. In other words, this makes it go up and down at each end...

That's the HINGE CONSTRAINT... pretty cool, huh?
Anyhoo, I made two cubes to act as weight thing's and my mission was to MAKE THE LIGHTER ONE FLY AWAY!
Here is the best of all of the images. I LOVE THE WATERMARK. [/sarcasm]

The lighting is done with the simple and effective spotlight. I had to position it, and change some attributes...but it was fairly easy.

You can see the spotlight in the top left in this image.
Anyway, thats about it. I am still a n00b, or beginner as some would say, at Maya, and hope to kick-ass at it (by kick-ass I mean 'operate') shortly. STAY TUNED and your instrument will sound better.
Cheers.

Yeah i first tried maya using the PLE edition, the first render i done with watermarks and i said, f*** this. I tried animating a tennis ball with some gravity and wind effects. The fur effect worked out pretty good.
